I came across the Blithe Splash Masks awhile and thought they were too cumberous to try. Who wants to clean your basin (or get a separate tub/bowl), fill it when water, add a capful of this solution, and THEN splash and pat the diluted solution onto the skin?
Too. Much. Work.
Then, when Glow Recipe launched them and gave a tip that you can dilute it while in the shower by pouring a capful into your hands and mixing a bit with water and then just splashing onto your face, that sounded much easier so I thought I'd give it a try. After a few tries, I just couldn't like it. Read on below for why.
These splash masks are made with lactic acid and fruit extracts which act as chemical exfoliants. The liquid is pretty concentrated so you dilute with water (ideally in a basin of water but in the shower works too) and you splash the mixture onto your skin. The contact helps to immediately exfoliate and renew skin.
This review is for the Rejuvenating Purple Berry Splash Mask. I have also tried the Yellow Citrus and Honey one. I'm big into scents when it comes to skincare and I hated the smell of the Puprle Berry Splash Mask. I personally thought it smells like artificially flavored berry cough syrup. The Yellow Citrus and Honey Splash Mask is a bit better but after reading very positive reviews of these masks and how the scent is "delightful" and "delicious", I just did not agree.
Now, I will admit that when I use it in the shower and splash the solution onto my skin I do notice my skin is more supple and soft almost immediately. The exfoliating impact is real. However, I have sensitive skin and I always notice redness on my skin after usage. It may be that I'm not diluting it enough in the shower but I just can't make myself fill my basin with water and splash, splash, splash.
It's a nice concept but in practice fails to work for me. The not pleasant scent, the awkwardness of splashing, and irritation means I would not purchase this again.
If you're looking for a good exfoliator, I would recommend an exfoliating toner like Biologique Recherche P50 Lotion over this product.
